A recent study published in the prestigious medical journal, The Lancet, confirmed what other research has suggested for some time.  Low back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide.  The incidence of low back pain is particluarly high in industrialized nations like Canada, the US, much of Europe and Australia.  The numbers are staggering.  In the US alone, $50 billion is spent each year for treatment, insurance payments and lost time related to back pain.  One out of every 10 people suffer from some type of ongoing back pain.  This leads to a decreased quality of life that limits activities of daily living, work and leisure, not to mention the toll this can take on personal relationships.  So what be done to combat this epidemic?  The short answer is to listen to what chiropractors have been saying for years!  Stay active, exercise regularly, watch your posture and maintain good spinal movement through regular adjustments.  A loss of movement in spinal joints has been shown to be a key factor in the development of degenerative changes that are often involved in disabling lower back pain.  Chiropractic is the most effective way to restore normal joint movement and keep you from becoming another statistic in the back pain epidemic.
